D-TRAC is closing its doors in Thailand as it prepares to continue the D-TRAC Disaster Information Management System in Indonesia. The tsunami recovery is well on its way in Thailand. Aid agencies are leaving the area and the remaining aid agencies are progressing with long-term recovery projects. So the need for D-TRAC’s work is coming to an end. Therefore we will be closing our center on Friday, April 27th.
During our 1 ½ years of operation D-TRAC has collected detailed information on over 135 aid organizations, assisted over 40 researchers with tsunami related studies, provided over 60 aid agencies with specific information requests, and oriented over 30 heads of aid agencies or donor agencies on the post-tsunami situation.
A small team of core staff will continue to work for the next two weeks to complete all the steps in transitioning out of the country. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for sharing your information with us and for your support of our work here in Thailand. We have been honored to be able to play a critical role in information collection and dissemination and are looking forward to a broader role in Indonesia.
