The successful candidates will be working with international development agencies in areas impacted by the 2004 tsunami in SE Asia. Key responsibilities include providing advice on the environmental impacts of development projects (particularly water and sanitation sector) and ways to mitigate these impacts, promoting sustainable water resource development and sanitation technologies, conducting training / advocacy programs with development agencies and aid beneficiaries on basic environmental awareness, and building capacity within humanitarian aid offices and local WWF offices.
One of the positions will be based in Banda Aceh, Indonesia
The other position will be based in either Bangkok or Phuket, Thailand.
The term of the assignment is flexible ranging from 6 months to 2 years or more with a competitive compensation package.
Minimum Work Requirements:
Education/Experience: Advanced degree or comparable experience in one of the following relevant fields: watershed management, water resources management, environmental impact assessment, environmental engineering, ecology, development and environment and/or environmental education, along with at least 5 to 10 years of experience. Existing network of relevant contacts.
Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in environmental impact assessment of infrastructure projects at multiple scales and sectors (prior experience with water and sanitation projects preferred).
- Experience in watershed management issues, such as Integrated Water Resources Management planning and water pollution.
- Advanced interpersonal and cross-cultural sensitivity skills and understanding of biodiversity principles;
- Experience in working as a largely autonomous member of a highly skilled and geographically dispersed team and experience managing consultants;
- Able to conduct field visits throughout Aceh, sometimes in areas with little to no infrastructure.
- Able to travel frequently at short notice;
- Ability to work against deadlines and under limited supervision.
